A change order describes any work, which is added or deleted from the original scope of work, as agreed upon in your contract, which alters both the contract price and the completion date.

As the homeowner, changing your mind is your prerogative, but it can be an expensive luxury. Even a slight change to the original scope of work is going to make a difference and will usually add money to your bill. Agree up front with your contractor that any changes will be in writing in a change order.
