October for me heralds that fall has arrived, even if here is Southern California it is still hot and sunny. Create a pumpkin planter to add some seasonal color to your porch or patio.
Choose your pumpkin. Ideally one that has a flat bottom. Choose a plant pot that will fit inside. Turn the pot upside down, place it on the stem end of the pumpkin and trace around it. Cut out this hole and hollow out the pumpkin as if you were about to carve it. Cut two small holes in the bottom for drainage.
I love the combination of purple pansies and orange but you can use succulents or mums or whatever takes your fancy. Plant these with potting soil in your pot, slip into the pumpkin and water well. Cheerful and delightful.
