You can make a quick and easy table runner or placemats from scrapbook paper – those lovely square sheets that come in extensive colors and designs and are very reasonably priced. If you want to use these for outdoor entertaining, you might want to make them a little more durable and water resistant in case of a shower.  Mind you, here in Southern California, a wine spill is far more likely than rain!

To plasticize your paper:  Use newspaper or something similar to protect your work area. Set your paper out, right side up. Take  new silicone sealer and squeeze lines of silicone across your paper. With a spreader, or piece of cardboard, spread the silicone evenly over the paper. Leave it until it is completely dry. Don’t use old or opened silicone, as it will not dry properly and will remain sticky.
