One of the sure fire ways to lose weight is to eat less. Eating more slowly improves digestion and your intake of food decreases. I am a very fast eater. I think this bad habit began at my elementary school in England where we were not allowed out to play until everyone at our lunch table had finished eating. We would guzzle down our food so quickly and berate anyone who had the audacity to savor each bite. Maybe we could have benefited from the HAPIfork.
COACHES YOU TO EAT HEALTHIER
It is a smart fork that claims to coach you into healthier eating habits. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to feel satisfied after a meal so by the time you feel full, you may have overeaten. By slowing down your eating pace, the theory is that you will consume fewer calories. Smart sensors and a built-in vibration motor send out gentle nudges or flash small indicator lights when the fork detects that you are shoveling food in faster than you should.
VIEW REAL TIME STATS
Pair your HAPIfork with your smartphone or tablet and you can view real time stats like how many times the fork went up to your mouth per minute and how long it took to eat your meal. Upload this data to an online dashboard to record and track your progress.
Personally I don’t know if I could cope with the feeling of metal vibrating against my teeth but I like the idea of what the fork is trying to achieve. It appears from reviews there are still some teething troubles to be worked out and improvements that need to be made. The HAPIfork is available at Amazon for around $68.
PERSONAL NUTRITION EXPERT
HAPIcoach is another application from HAPI.com that provides you with 1:1 communication with a nutritionist. Take a photo of what’s on your plate and send it to a nutrition expert who will give you feedback and tips for improvement within 24 hours. There is definitely a feeling of accountability if you commit to sending a photo of every meal. Guilt may certainly play a role in making you put back that doughnut and select an extra portion of salad instead, but who cares what the reason is if you are losing weight and forming healthier eating habits. And who doesn’t like receiving a bit of praise like – “Great lunch choice. Try adding some fruit next time. Keep up the good work.”
