Chalkboard paint used to only come in two colors – black and green. Now you can now find it in absolutely any color you want, which opens up so many creative possibilities beyond a simple blackboard.

1. IS THAT MY WINE?

Paint whatever shape you want, rectangle, heart or circle, on the side of a wineglass. Invite your guests to write their name in chalk. Makes it clear which wine is mine, and which is thine!  No more confusion.

2. PERSONALIZE ANYTHING

With a stencil and a bit of paint you can personalize anything and create simple but memorable gifts.  Glass jars are perfect. Fill with goodies, write “For Jane only” on the chalkboard panel and no-one will dare steal your cookies again.

3. GRAFFITI DOOR

Encourage graffiti by painting the inside of your bathroom door. You may get a few rude jokes but the door should make interesting reading when your guests leave.

4. CREATE HERB GARDEN POTS

Give your kitchen a Mediterranean flavor and keep a miniature herb garden to hand. Paint terracotta pots with bright colored chalk paint. Write the names of the herbs on the side.  Tie a little rustic string around each one and arrange together on a tray. Cheerful and practical.

5. CREATE A KIDS’ CANVAS

Paint one whole wall in your children’s playroom with chalkboard paint and never tell them to stop drawing on the walls again. Choose a color that complements your décor; maybe a contrasting color from the other walls.  The wall is perfect for education and play.

6. CREATE AN OUTDOOR BOARD

Adults love to doodle just as much as children. If you live in a warm climate like Southern California, create a large outdoor blackboard that will keep children and adults happy for hours.

7. LABEL YOUR DRAWERS

Instead of opening each drawer to find out what’s in it, paint the front surface and label it with chalk. If you have a clear out, just wipe off the words and start again. Works well for a tall dresser and a fun way to stay organized.

8. PAINT INSIDE THE PANTRY

Rather than have your shopping list displayed on the outside of your cupboard, paint the inside door so your memos and reminders are neatly inside.  A good place to leave little love notes as well.

9. TURN A TABLE INTO A TABLET

When our kids were young, our favorite restaurant to take them had white paper on the tables and crayons in a container. We happily amused ourselves while waiting for our order to arrive. Why not instantly revamp an old or boring table by painting the whole of the tabletop with chalkboard paint? You won’t need pen and paper for Pictionary!

10. A WORD A DAY

We all need a little uplifting and inspiring. Create a location that you look at every day. Maybe paint a board inside a frame. Write a word or phrase each day or week that will give you food for thought and encourage you to dream big.  See it. Believe it. Make it happen.
